Ambulance Dispatchers
Ambulance Dispatchers answer both non-urgent and emergency triple-zero calls, assess the patient's condition over the phone, and provide step-by-step instructions in lifesaving procedures. In addition, they are trained in dispatching and coordinating ambulance resources.

At our Emergency Operations Centre in Adelaide, we also coordinate the Adelaide Bank State Rescue Helicopter Service and also coordinate the Divers' Emergency Network, using conference calls to connect specialists in decompression sickness to emergencies anywhere in Australia.

SAAS communications coordinators are educated in the management of triple-zero telephone calls, non-urgent ambulance bookings, and general enquiries. They also coordinate and dispatch resources to attend the requests.

They must complete the Certificate IV in Ambulance Communications (Dispatch).

The certificate is achieved by a combination of lecturer contact hours (during blocks of study conducted at the Ambulance Education Unit and at the Emergency Operations Centre), and practical experience in the Emergency Operations Centre.
