Patient Transport Service Officers |
| Non-emergency routine transfer of patients makes up a large percentage of SAAS's work. In metropolitan Adelaide SAAS has specialist officers and vehicles allocated for hospital transfers and outpatient appointments. This means we can keep emergency ambulances and paramedics free to attend more serious situations. Patient transport service officers deal specifically with non-urgent cases. They are trained to provide care for patients who are not in emergency or life-threatening situations. Recruitment to be part of the PTS team is for
casual employment only. Permanent appointments are drawn from this
casual employee pool. |

| Patient Transport Service (PTS) officers are educated to administer pre-hospital care during non-emergency routine transfer of patients. Students are required to complete the Certificate IV in Basic Emergency Care. |
| The certificate is achieved by a combination of lecturer contact hours (during blocks of study conducted at the Ambulance Education Unit) and on-road experience as part of a Patient Transport Service crew. | ||
