Paramedics at Major Events

While most enjoy the state’s reputation for major events, there is a substantial amount of planning that must go in to it; not only for competitors but members of the public as well. Large events such as the Clipsal 500 Adelaide and Santos Tour Down Under take months of preparation so that the public can be certain that the ambulance service is ready and prepared. SA Ambulance Service also covers hundreds of public events each year including AFL matches and music concerts held around the state.

SA Ambulance Service requires a minimum of three (3) months advance notice of ambulance attendance requests. If you are organising an event and think you may require a standby ambulance, you will need to complete the online event booking form. Major Events will conduct a risk assessment on the event to determine the following:

  1. Whether or not SA Ambulance Service is required or if a first aid provider would be more appropriate
  2. The level of clinical skills required
  3. The type of medical equipment that would be appropriate for the event.

Should a request for a standby ambulance be successful, a quote for attendance will be provided within 17-20 business days.

There are variations on the type of medical support SA Ambulance can provide such as:

  1. Standard Ambulance – two crew members in vehicle with stretcher carrying capacity
  2. Single Responder – one crew member in a vehicle to treat & stabilise patients prior to transport to hospital (if required)
  3. Bicycle Response Unit – two crew members on bicycles to treat and stabilise patients transport to hospital (if required).

The Major Events Unit will determine the most appropriate medical support for your event.

If you would like to submit a booking request, please complete the booking form. For further information please email the Emergency and Major Events Unit at saasmajorevents@health.sa.gov.au.
